LJ Update To Go

Sitting in the Cafe Rain Tree watching the sun set in the Inner Sunset. Just got a little handspring visor from some craigslist guy. It's pretty sweet!

The waitress is tired and she just sat down at the table with us, I love it when that happens. Joel is drinking a tasty espresso shake yum.

The sky just went from astonishing flaming pinks, reds and orange to dusky blue and violet. Very nice.

This really enthusiastic little straightedge weirdo was talking really emphatically to us when we were waiting to meet the craigslist guy at the Einstein Cafe. He was really hyper and small, and kept talking to us about Black Metal and wearing capes and gauntlets. Friendly, if a little bizarre. Yet another instance of my strange ability to attract conversation with nutjobs.

The craigslist guy was kind of weird and sexist, he kept deferring to Joel when he was talking about the technical aspects of the visor. Duh. Like a PDA is some kind of super hi-tech item that a woman couldn't possibly fathom. Jeez. Take your money and go, butternuts.

When we left the cafe, we walked towards 9th and Irving where two Sidewalk Astronomers were letting people come by and take free peeks at the surface of the moon, or Saturn, depending on which corner you were at. That is just *so cool*.

pippilina called me up on her mobile in London to my mobile in SF. That was so global.

You're so right, I completely should have. The guy was really starting to bug me, but I held my own and didn't let him get away with too much.

what model visor is it? I got the clear deluxe, it's 2 years old buy I love it...heheh if i see you in the city we can beam stuff at each other...

did you know you can control stuff that has an IR-port? we used to make the furbies at work go nuts, made a few remote controled lego mind storm robots, and made a super remote for my home theater. I can print from a IR enabled printer, if your cell has an ir port , you can use that as a modem (I have a nokia 8290 and it talks to my visor fine)

I didn't know that you could use it to hassle Furbies, that rules! I knew you could configure it to act as a tv remote, or whatever.

It's a plain old black visor. It was super cheap and i'm going to get a camera for it, go me!

The "Gaydar" game is pretty funny.

yeh, you just need a driver (you can do a net search)
One, lets you do a spectrum search (kinda like a port scan)
I used to take it to Toys-R-Us and see what toys freak out.

if you like the gaydar one you might like the stuff from minordemons.com like crack monkey. or the tamagotchi "pimp" and "hoe"

W0rd! I am definitely going to have to hunt for all the good junk. Like I need more toys. :P

Sidewalk Astronomers in the Sunset! Can't imagine that happens very often -- too much cloud cover! There's a big group every I think Saturday night up at Lawrence Hall of Science in Berkeley; we used to run into them a lot.

I was worried we'd get a salesman like that when shopping for cars; fortunately most of them seem to have wised up.

I've seen the Sidewalk Astronomers out on Irving and 9th 4 times so far, but only on amazing clear days, of course. It's so cool, just kind of stumbling on someone with a huge telescope in the middle of a busy intersection. Their philosophy is great, too!

The guy who sold me the palm was a definite choad, but I think he was mostly confused to see 2 people waiting for him rather than 1, and he asked if Joel was my "palm expert". He also admitted that he was just coming off of an all-nighter, so he might have been hallucinating, who knows!
