bucket!

do-be-do-be-do

Last night I was wandering through Chinatown past the Chinese Hospital and I was smelling things. Everything smelled really good, or at least I was smelling things very distinctly. Joel and I were both really hungry because we have this awful habit of only eating once a day, usually late. We walked past a really interesting building and I looked up to see the moon, waxing in Cancer, making the high, thin clouds glow. It was a beautiful effect behind the corner of an intricate pagoda-esque building. I whipped out my camera and took a few shots, and when I was finished, a guy walked up and said "I hate even having to ask this, but, you're just doing this for like, what, a hobby or something? What are you doing?" and I said "Oh, just taking a photograph of the moon" and felt kind of pissed off at being bothered, treated with suspicion. He said "Oh it's just I have to ask, i'm a security guard." He seemed really apologetic. Instead of sticking around to say anything further, or end the interaction on a high note, I felt strangely guilty and angry, so we just sort of skulked off down the street.

When I get followed around in a store, which happens a lot, like I'm some kind of shoplifter, I have a tendency to feel guilty, like I'm doing something wrong, or that i'm about to do something wrong. Pff.

We ate a tasty dinner and watched people stagger past the windows of New Sun Hong Kong drunkenly. I was stuffed full of chow fun and porridge so we took a walk up Columbus, bought a cannoli and some biscotti for later and wandered around Washington Square and looked at the statue of Vichy with the inscription about the freaky 1979-2079 time capsule. Time capsules are so funny. I can only imagine what wonders a 1979 capsule would contain, like, a toy rock, some 8-tracks. Ha. I took a lot of photos of the moon through skeletal treelimbs.
