Recently, after hearing this weird, haunting song State of Grace on the extra-fresh tasty Tech-Pop compilation, i've been obsessively listening to any and everything I can find by Swayzak. The thing is, there's a lot of it, and I keep liking pretty much everything I run across, even after watching this crazy little video for I dance Alone [realaudio file]. The song State of Grace, which will apparently be made widely available on an uncoming release, features really angelic vocals by Kirsty Hawkshaw, who started out performing opera, niiice.

+State of Grace cover+
I found the lyrics through a fan group on Y! - No matter what sort of randomness you're curious about, it's nice to know that you can count on the tireless efforts of dedicated mega-nerds, obsessively cataloguing details and data about it Just For You, and it's only a CLICKAWAY
und zo, in the spirit of obsessive mega-nerds, I'm reposting her lyrics & trivia from a letter she wrote to the message board:

"...I don't know if I told you but I received a call from James
from Swayzak a week ago and he has told me that Swayzak
are releasing 'State of Grace' finally after three years of record
company hell. So I was very pleased to hear that.
Here are the lyrics as requested. BTW this song is
about a dream a good friend of mine had who dreamt she
was pulling me out of a hole full of quick sand...
"

    STATE OF GRACE

you know it makes no difference
    whether we talk or not
and it's much harder going in there sometimes
than jumping down from the top
but if you talk to me
    I will listen to you
with my ears my eyes my heart
till we both reach a State of Grace
I will pull you out of the mud of secrets
till we both trust the coast is clear
    information kept to yourself
    is information breeding danger
you know it makes no difference
if you remember times that I forgot
    sometimes we need Nostalgia
but there's a need for not
    taking consciousness for granted
I need to hear your core self
so don't expect me to give into it
I don't want to go back there
    my senses would not work
so till we both reach a State of Grace
    I will pull you out
    of the mud of secrets
till we both trust the coast is clear
information kept to yourself is information breeding
    danger.

    Wenn du mit mir sprichts
Ich wil dein tiefstes inneress verstehen
    aber verlangen nicht
    das ich dir nach gebe
du weib das es kein underschied macht
ob wir mit ein ander sprechen
    oder nicht.
    ...her german/english translation:
    Wenn du mit mir spricht
    when you talk to me
ich wil dein tiefstes Inneres verstehen
I want to understand your deepest feelings.
    aber verlangen nicht
    but don't expect
    das ich dir nach gebe
    that I'll give into you
du weib das es kein unterschied macht
you know it makes no difference
ob wir mit ein ander sprechen
whether we speak to each other
    oder nicht
    or not?

hehe, I told caffeina that I've had a big vocal-crush on her for a while. I think it started w/the Delerium songs for which she sang and has been heavily reinforced by her work as remixed and incorporated by electronica musicians.

Edit: In searching for links just now, I realized I've been confusing Kristy Thirsk with Kirsty Hackshaw. Shame on me. I'll have to listen to their respective vocals with an ear to differentiating them 'cause they all kinds of bled together in my mind right now.

(In other news, I wonder if Delerium deliberately misspelled their name?)
